Sure, the beat is solid, but it doesn't hold a candle to the playful effervescence of the previous track, slipping into somnambulistic darkness instead. Kanye goes on the solo production tip for the decidedly laidback "My Baby," which is one of those requisite slow jams. This is a track that begs to be remixed, flipped, and stripped. A beguiling and insanely catchy number that merits numerous repeats if not to pick up on all the dirty sex talk Janet is dishing, but just to luxuriate on the tasty beat. The track that takes the cake, however, is "Strawberry Bounce." Jointly laced up by Jackson mainstays Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the uber hot Kanye West, the track is a sickly sweet aural confection of chimes and vibes mixed into an infectious loop over which you can hear elements of Jay-Z's "Can I Get A." The lyrics are off the hook-"…watch the way I pump it, the way it works is gonna keep you comin', do a dance that's so sexual I'mma make you loose control…" -especially when teamed with Jackson's girlish "ba-ba-ba-ba" chorus hook. ![]() "Sexhibition" keeps the lurching, sampled grooves moving thanks to Dallas Austin's electro R&B chug and stutter beat that burbles infectiously underneath Jackson's intermittent vocal bubbles. It segues immediately into the ping-pong rhythm of the title track, which is all sampled bells, R&B croons, and rap inflected scratches and cat calls wrapped around Janet's shyly sexual. It's quasi spiritual, yet deeply sensual, as if she's been listening to a lot of vintage Prince recently. Damita Jo, which is supposedly a reference to her middle name (and one wonders if it's inspired by '50s comedienne and R&B singer Damita Jo DuBlanc) begins with the ultra languid "Looking For Love," which is essentially spatial noize flitting from channel to channel while Ms. ![]()
